What this crypto profit calculator does
A crypto profit calculator works out how much money you made or lost on a trade by subtracting what you paid from what you got back. Enter your buy price per coin, your sell price per coin, the amount you held and any trading fees, and the tool above returns your profit or loss in dollars, your return on investment (ROI) as a percentage, and the break-even sell price โ the level you must clear just to cover your costs.
Everything recalculates the instant you change a field, so you can test different exit prices or fee structures without pressing a button. Because you type the prices in yourself, the calculator works for any coin โ Bitcoin, Ethereum, Solana, Dogecoin, XRP or anything else.
This tool is educational only and is not financial advice. It shows pre-tax figures and excludes taxes and slippage unless you enter them as fees. Cryptocurrency prices are volatile and you can lose money. Always do your own research and consider a licensed professional before trading.
How to calculate crypto profit
The maths behind a crypto profit calculator is short. In plain English:
- Total invested = buy price per coin ร amount, plus your buy fee. This is the cash that left your pocket.
- Total exit value = sell price per coin ร amount, minus your sell fee. This is the cash that came back.
- Profit or loss ($) = total exit value โ total invested. Positive means profit, negative means a loss.
- ROI (%) = profit or loss รท total invested ร 100. This is the standard return on investment formula applied to a single trade.
- Break-even sell price = (total invested + sell fee) รท amount. Sell above this and you profit; sell below and you lose.
Fees matter more than most people expect. The calculator shows both gross profit (before fees) and net profit (after fees) so you can see exactly what the exchange took.
How to use this calculator
- 1Enter your buy price per coin โ the price in dollars you paid for one unit of the coin.
- 2Enter your sell price per coin โ the price you sold at, or a hypothetical exit price you want to test.
- 3Enter the amount โ how many coins (or fractions of a coin) you bought.
- 4Add your buy and sell fees. Toggle each between % (a share of that leg's value) or a flat $ amount to match your exchange.
- 5Read your results: net profit or loss, ROI, gross vs net, fee impact and the break-even sell price โ all update live.

Worked example
Suppose you bought 0.5 BTC at $30,000 and sold at $45,000, paying a 0.5% fee on each side. Here is how the calculator breaks it down.
| Line item | Value |
|---|---|
| Buy notional (0.5 ร $30,000) | $15,000.00 |
| Buy fee (0.5%) | $75.00 |
| Total invested | $15,075.00 |
| Sell notional (0.5 ร $45,000) | $22,500.00 |
| Sell fee (0.5%) | $112.50 |
| Total exit value | $22,387.50 |
| Gross profit (before fees) | +$7,500.00 |
| Net profit (after fees) | +$7,312.50 |
| ROI | +48.51% |
| Break-even sell price / coin | $30,375.00 |
The $187.50 in combined fees turned a $7,500 gross gain into a $7,312.50 net gain โ and pushed your break-even from $30,000 up to $30,375 per coin.
What this calculator does not include
To keep the result honest, a few real-world costs are deliberately left out unless you add them yourself as fees:
- Taxes. Profits are shown pre-tax. Most jurisdictions tax crypto gains โ the IRS treats digital assets as property. Learn what you may owe in our crypto tax guides.
- Slippage. Large or fast-moving orders can fill at a worse price than quoted. If you know your slippage, add it into the sell price or as a flat fee.
- Spread. The gap between the buy and sell quote on some venues is an implicit cost. Reflect it by using the actual prices you were filled at.
Crypto profit calculator FAQs
How do I calculate crypto profit?
Crypto profit equals your total exit value minus your total invested. Total invested is your buy price per coin times the amount you bought, plus any buy fee. Total exit value is your sell price per coin times the amount, minus any sell fee. Subtract invested from exit value to get profit or loss in dollars, then divide by invested and multiply by 100 for ROI as a percentage.
What is a good ROI on a crypto trade?
There is no universal 'good' ROI โ it depends on your risk tolerance, holding period and what else you could have done with the money. ROI simply measures the percentage return on the capital you put in. A positive ROI means the trade made money after the fees you entered; a negative ROI means it lost money. This tool reports ROI so you can compare trades on equal footing, but it does not judge whether a return is good.
Does this calculator include trading fees?
Yes. You can enter a buy fee and a sell fee, each as either a percentage of that leg's value or a flat dollar amount. The calculator folds the buy fee into your total invested and subtracts the sell fee from your exit value, then shows both gross profit (before fees) and net profit (after fees) so you can see exactly how much the fees cost you.
What is the break-even sell price?
The break-even sell price is the price per coin at which your exit value exactly equals your total invested, so your net profit is zero. It accounts for both the buy fee already paid and the sell fee you will pay on the way out. Selling above the break-even price produces a profit; selling below it produces a loss.
Does this calculator account for taxes?
No. This tool shows pre-tax profit and loss only. Capital gains on crypto are taxable in most jurisdictions โ the IRS treats digital assets as property in the United States. To estimate what you may owe after a sale, use a dedicated crypto tax calculator and consult a tax professional.
Can I use this for any cryptocurrency?
Yes. The calculator is coin-agnostic โ it works for Bitcoin, Ethereum, Solana, Dogecoin, XRP or any token. Just enter the buy and sell price per coin in dollars and the amount you hold. Because you type the prices in yourself, it is not tied to any single asset or live feed.

The bottom line
A crypto profit calculator turns a messy trade into three clear numbers โ profit or loss, ROI and break-even โ so you can judge an exit before you take it or review one after the fact. Enter your own prices and fees above, remember that the figures are pre-tax and educational only, and pair the result with the live converter and a tax calculator for the full picture.
